My Approach to Therapy

I’m Dr. Olivia Hilchey, a licensed clinical psychologist, and it’s my passion to help individuals and couples improve their quality of life.

I specialize in working with couples who are experiencing a crisis, betrayal, sharp conflict, and emotional/physical distancing.  For marriage counseling, I use the Gottman Method which is an evidence-based treatment that has over 40 years of research to support its effectiveness.  As a marriage counselor, it is my goal to help your marriage get back on track and stay there for the long term.

My focus in individual therapy is helping you move quickly towards freeing yourself from anxiety, depression, panic attacks, relationship issues, and feeling “stuck.”  I provide a comfortable, safe, and warm environment to work through your daily struggles.  During therapy, I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based treatments to help children, adolescents, and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, and other concerns.

For those who desire it, I am trained in Christian integrated therapy which combines evidence-based therapies and Christian principles to help improve your spiritual life and closeness with God.

Education and Experience

I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from the University of the Cumberlands. Additionally, I have a Master of Science in Christian Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern Adventist University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Maryville College.  In addition to providing therapy, I spend time in training and consulting, scholarly writing and research, psychological testing, and fostering personal and professional development in future mental health professionals.

Additionally, I have experience providing supportive psychology services in Assisted Living Facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities, and Independent Living Centers as well as providing community-based case management services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
